WEEKLY e-EPISTLE
Saint James’ Episcopal Church, Mill Creek Hundred
Wilmington, Delaware
August 15, 2013
To my brothers and sisters in Christ:
Still Waiting – Efforts to get our new website online has lead us down some paths that we had not anticipated, one of which has had us dealing with a company in Australia that controls our domain name. It seems that after a week of fits and starts we may have finally broken through the bureaucratic logjam and may soon be up and running. The website address will remain the same www.stjamnesmillcreek.org so you can check it for yourself and see if we are “live” with the new multimedia site.
300th Anniversary Celebration – We are now just a little of three weeks away from the start of our Tercentennial celebration. You should have received a brochure in the mail that provides a listing of the dates and events. If you did not, please contact the office and we will make sure that you get one. Information on specific activities that will be held on the day of an event will be publicized in advance of each upcoming date.
Marriage Customary – Your vestry has held a follow-up discussion to the July 14th parish conversation that was held with regards to the proposed marriage customary for St. James’ Church. The next step in our parish discernment, including an invitation to the parish at large, will be communicated in the upcoming issue the newsletter to be mailed before the end of August.
Finally – For those of you who follow the liturgical calendar of the commemoration of the saints, today is the feast day of Saint Mary the Virgin, Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Mary’s Song (Luke 1:46-55), which she sang in response to the greeting she received from her cousin Elizabeth, is assigned to be said or sung at every office of Daily Evening Prayer, and is more than worth a few minutes of reading and reflection on this day.
To my brothers and sisters in Christ:
Peace and Blessings,
Fr. Jim
Announcements
Many thanks for the continued support of donations for the food closet. Many vacations are planned for this month, and we have Family Promise, but if you are able, please drop off a couple cans of food during this month to help get the needy through. The pop top Chef Boyardee pasta cans are very popular and they leave our shelves quickly. So they are always needed. We currently have a good selection of soups, but peanut butter and jelly are popular and always needed as well. Cans of chili, stews, tuna and other meats are good protein for needy people. Also boxes of mac and cheese.
THANKS AGAIN...Food Closet Committee
PUT THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR !
Our tercentennial celebration begins on September 8th with a special service using the service that would have been used in 1714. This will be followed by an ice cream social. Don't miss it!
